The third prayer's description of infidels discourages the positive relationship with Islam called for by Nostra Aetate, 3 and repeatedly reiterated by Pope Benedict in the aftermath of his lecture at the University of Regensberg. Similar problems might be found elsewhere in the Missal simply because it was uninformed by subsequent developments in Catholic understanding.
