However, I don't know if the geometry is the same. Moreover, I don't know how much airfoil and blade sweep is really being used. The general look of the fan is the same though. One thing I didn't show in the introductory screencast, and probably should have shown, is that you need to manually copy the automatically created input files that OPT makes into the appropriate folders.

In some cases, you rename them and make two versions. When I redo the screencasts, I'll show this process. The audio quality isn't great on my new laptop. I plan on buying a microphone, to address the issue. At the end of this video, I recommended MoI. I have since ruled that out as a good option. It has some of the same problems as Rhino. Plus a few problems that Rhino doesn't have.

In my opinion, the user interface is also more difficult to work with than Rhino. The main benefit of MoI vs Rhino is cost. However, I would probably recommend Rhino over MoI now.

Even with all the problems that I have had with Rhino 5. In actuality, at this point, there isn't a CAD program that I would recommend. Alibre Atom may work and is even less expensive than MoI. However, I haven't personally tried it.

Based on the Alibre forum, it seems like most people that try Atom end up having to upgrade. The other versions of Alibre are much more expensive. More along the lines of what Rhino costs.

The nice thing about Alibre though is that it's parametric. So this could end up saving a lot of time over Rhino. Rhino has Grasshopper, however, that is a very unusual way to model things. Alibre works like a typical parametric MCAD program. So it is just more intuitive. At least for me. Basically, wrt CAD, there are a ton of options and it's pretty much impossible for me to recommend something. The main thing I try to find is something affordable, with good support, and frequent updates.

That pretty much narrows it down to Rhino, MoI, and Alibre. The screencast I reference in this video is no longer online. It became outdated. The main points I wanted to cover are in this screencast. All of the CAD models, shown on this website, were created with Rhino.

All of the renderings, shown on this website, were created with KeyShot. You can tune these for your specific processor and possibly gain a little more speed.

This shouldn't be necessary, however, as the codes run very fast as is using the default settings. All source codes were compiled with Intel Fortran the c7.

I recommend one of the following Fortran compilers for Windows:. For other processor types, you will have to re-compile the Fortran 77 source code files. The best option is to use a small product that utilizes bit Windows. There are many such devices available. This would allow you to design a propeller, for a prospective customer, without having to return to your office. So if you were in a meeting or at a trade show, with a few inputs from the prospective customer, you could generate a design right there.

I have never used Apple products, due to their business practices. You can do it, too! The following download is hosted on my Dropbox account. Recent Changes:. January 13, Reformatted a few of the 'README' files, so they work with word wrap Added two new screencasts wrt optimization Due to space constraints of free online storage sites, I had to move the screencasts back to YouTube.

I use to have them on YouTube, but was running into bugs that made me switch to hosting them elsewhere. YouTube is the only place I can find that will hold the files now. My new laptop is making much larger screencast file sizes, due to the higher screen resolution I plan on updating all the screencasts, once I get a new microphone. So look for those sometime this year.

These are to help work around gnuplot issues. This should be the last change I make to that program Updated a few of the plots in that folder January 01, Update 2: Found a way to work around the zoom problem with the 3D plots of the airfoil and stall model data.

I changed the settings file to allow you to select how much of the AoA data to plot. The defaults are setup to give a good view of the transition zone. If where you want to zoom is off to one side, you are out of luck. That's why I added the 2D plots in a previous update. They were no longer needed and I didn't like them much to begin with.

This was to keep from bogging down gnuplot. These are to aid debugging. Also made some improvements to some of the debugging files in those folders Improved the source code notes and loop controls in certain places Made all the codes more consistent with each other Found a better initial bounce size control to use.

It was set at Now it's set at This changes makes more cases solve for the MAPS programs Updated the user manual, to take into account today's changes Overall, today's changes make the program more accurate when high speed stall is encountered. December 31, Happy New Year! You won't need that for anything. I found I needed that information today and it wasn't output anywhere. Site issues? Payment Method Add a Payment Method.

Anyone out there have a copy of Jan's propeller software? I thought abought buying it while he was alive but procrastinated. FokkerDVII said:. I would very much like to have a copy of this software as well. Willing to host it and continue development. It's in the same command-prompt format as Xfoil, so it's not as friendly as Excel, but it is a very thorough program. Prop design, analysis of arbitrary user designs, stress analysis, and sound modeling are all included. I have just begun to mess with it, myself.

Does anyone have contact information for anyone in Jan's family? I do believe that Jan's software allowed output to files that could go directly to Solidworks or others. Drela's software is more like a Phd dissertation. Lendo Well-Known Member. Joined Feb 6, Messages Location Brisbane.

Jay, I have a copy but it won't run on Windows 10, I transferred it to a stand alone Laptop which still had Win7. His latest version he used for consultancy work and was very much different with many new approaches along the lines of Paul Lipps's work and Jack Norris's book. Jan Carlsson was European, so someone from that area of Europe might know the family, or be able to contact the family, to arrange some discussion on possibility of selling copies of his latest work.

I would also be interested in that.
